Here is some interesting information about the past of our wonderful football club.
18th November 1897
A meeting was held at the Spread Eagle Hotel and it was agreed that a football club should be formed in Withernsea.
11th December 1897
First ever match - Withernsea AFC 0-2 Patrington .
22nd January 1898
An enthusiastic band of admirers escorted Withernsea AFC around the village after a 2-1 win against Hedon.
22nd January 1898
A 2nd team was also formed on this day, they played a match at home to Dairycoates Locos.
June 1898
End of season record for the first year read:-
Played 14, Won 10, Lost 4, Goals For 35, Against 15.
3rd December 1898
First victory v Patrington (1-0 at home)
September 1899
Withernsea joined a league for the first time, Hull Association Senior League.
June 1901
Withernsea finished runners-up in the Senior League. Their record read:-
Played 8, Won 5, Drew 1, Lost 2, Goals For 17, Against 15, Points 11.
September 1902
Withernsea joined the East Riding County First League
Season 1902-03
Withernsea Played in the same league as Hull City. Hull finished first and Withernsea fourth out of seven.
23 June 1904
At E.R.C.F.A AGM Withernsea were presented with 3rd League Championship Cup.
December 1904
S.Newman a Withernsea forward was signed professionally by Hull City.
5 November 1910
Withernsea beat Bridlington Town 8-3.
June 1910
Withernsea moved over into the Amateur League which had been founded in 1907/08.
1912/13
Withernsea won the Championship of Division 1.
1919
Three teams emerged from Withernsea after world war 1. Withernsea North End was believed to be the team that we are now.
August 1925
Following the depature of Swarbrick, Bullock, a former schoolboy international joined Withernsea as did Biglin a former captain of the Hull City boys team.
March 1933
Jack Reyner scores 5 in one game and makes it 28 for the season.
10th March 1933
Club holds it's first Annual Ball.
19th March 1933
Withernsea beat St Columbas 3-2 in front of around 200 spectators.
March 1933
Withernsea beat Keyingham 5-4 in a South Holderness Cup Tie, Jack Reynor scored all 5.
March 1933
Withernsea play Hedon in front of "several hundred"
April 1933
Jack Reynor signs for Selby Town and is referred to as "our promising centre-forward playing again for Selby Town".
16 September 1933
Withernsea lose 2-1 v Brunswick in the Intermediate Cup final replay at Keyingham.
1933/34
Withernsea are Country Cup Runners-Up losing to Ricall, the holders in the final.
January 1934
Withernsea lose 3-1 at home too Reckitts in front of "About 250 Spectators"
1934
A 15 year successful stint as Withernsea North End comes to an end as the local soccer team move from the Hull Road ground to the School fields under the name Withernsea Old Boys.
1935
Withernsea finished Runners-Up in Division 1 of the Amateur League and Runners-Up again in the Country Cup to Ricall again who won it for the third time in a row.
1935/36
Withernsea entered the F.A Amateur Cup.

Withernsea reached the final of the Country Cup for the third time in a row, they again lost but this time to Fulford.
1948/49
Withernsea Old Boys left the school fields and the name was now changed to Withernsea AFC.
12th July 1954
Dave Halford a young R.A.F Airman said there would be a number of airmen at R.A.F Patrington who would like to play for the club. Withernsea gambled and made a second team, never since has the club fielded less then two teams. The R.A.F personnel were as good as Dave said. On occasions they gave up week-end passes, and even returned early from leave in order to keep their places in what became two successful teams. 1954-55 was one of the good times!

Withernsea finished runners-up in Division 2.
1956/57
Withernsea win the South Holderness Cup for the first time.
1959/60
Withernsea Reserves were Champions of division 4 and promoted.
1960
The club decided now was the time to answer the call for more football and started a third team.
1961
The first team fought their way into the top Amateur League Division and the second team rose to occupy a place in the second highest division in the leagues.

The first team were runners up in division 3

The first team did the cup double winning the Intermediate Cup v Kingburn 2nds and the Senior Country Cup at Driffield.
1962/63
The first team did the triple being champions of division 2 and retaining the Senior Country Cup v Nafferton. They also won the South Holderness Cup for the second time.
1963
The Reserves slipped down to division 4 due to not having the playing and financial resources to cope with the higher leagues.
1963/64
The club formed a fourth team. Sometimes just to give everyone a game a fifth team played friendlies on a Sunday morning.

Withernsea retained the Senior Country Cup again v Nafferton again. They also won the South Holderness Cup although it was shared with Hedon & Marfleet Utd.
1963/64
The Reserves won Division 4 in the Amateur League.
1964/65
The first team were runners-up in division one, the top league.

Withernsea retained the Senior Country Cup yet again v Beeford. They also won the South Holderness Cup v Hedon & Marfleet Utd.
1965/66
The first team this time were Runners-Up in the Senior Country Cup losing in a replay with Ganton. The succes though in the South Holderness Cup did continue beating DCL Sports.
1966/67
Withernsea won the South Holderness Cup for the 5th time in a row beating Hedon & Marfleet Utd.
1967/68
The first team got hold of the Senior Country Cup for the fifth time in the sixties beating Filey 2-1. Although they finished Runners-Up in the South Holderness Cup to Hedon & Marfleet Utd.
1969/70
The first team were Runners-Up in the Senior Country Cup.
1969/70
The Reserves where runners-up in Division 3.
1971/72
Withernsea AFC won the South Holderness Cup beating BP Chemicals.
1972/73
Withernsea retained the South Holderness Cup beating Ottringham in the final.
1973/74
Withernsea retained the South Holderness Cup again beating BP Chemicals.
1974/75
Withernsea won the South Holderness Cup for the 10th time beating Humbleton in the final.
1976
The fourth team at Withernsea folded.
1980
The fourth team re-formed.
1983
Due to a lack of playing and financial resources the fourth team were unable to continue.
1985/86
Withernsea AFC won the Division 2 Championship without losing a match.
1985/86
Withernsea were Runners-Up in the Intermediate Cup losing in a replay v Newland Old Boys.
1985/86
Withernsea win the South Holderness Cup.
1986/87
Withernsea 3rd team won a cup that was formed just for Division 6 teams due to a lack of fixtures.
1987
The third team from Withernsea AFC Folded.
May 14th 1987
Withernsea play on Boothferry Park in the Final of the Amateur League Senior Cup v Reckitts losing narrowly 1-0.
1988/89
The first team are promoted to the top division of Amateur Football.
1989/90
Withernsea AFC win the South Holderness Cup.
1991
Withernsea are awarded the John Thompson Trophy for the Amateur League Most Sporting club of the year.
1990/91
Withernsea beat Easington Utd 5-2 at Easington to win the South Holderness Cup.
1992/93
Withernsea beat Easington Utd 6-3 at Withernsea to win the South Holderness Cup.

The third team are re-formed.
1996/97
Withernsea lose to Easington on penalties in the South Holderness Cup Final.
1998
Withernsea are awarded the John Thompson Trophy for the Amateur League Most Sporting club of the year.
2000/01
Withernsea are beaten 2-1 v Keyingham in the South Holderness Cup Final.
2001/02
Withernsea are Runners-Up in the South Holderness Cup losing 6-5 on penalties v Easington Utd.
2002/2003
Withernsea are Runners-Up in the South Holderness Final losing 3-2 to Easington.
2003/2004
Withernsea AFC form it's first junior team and they finish Runners-Up in the U12 Drypool(2nd league).
2004/2005
Two more junior teams are added at Withernsea, the U9s and U10s.
2005/2006
Another junior team is added at U9s to go with the U10s, U11s and U13s.
2005/2006
The U11s win the HBSFL U11 Plate Competition and finish Runners-Up in the U11 Wyke.
2005/2006
The U13s win the HBSFL fair-play award.
2005/2006
The 3rd team are Runners-Up in County League Division 5.
2005/2006
Withernsea AFC are Runners-Up in the South Holderness Cup losing 4-1 to Easington Utd.
2006
Withernsea AFC holds a junior tournament that raises over £3,000.
2007
The annual tournament is held again and raises over £5,000.
2007
More junior teams are added and at the start of the season Withernsea AFC has teams at U9s(3), U10s (2), U11s, U12s, U13s, U14s, U16s.
2007/08
The U12s win the fair play award from the HBSFL.
2007/08
The U13s are promoted to the Myton League by finishing Runners-Up in the U13 Drypool.
2007/08
The U16s win the HBSFL U16 Plate Competition. The team has finished and they now will go into the senior set-up.
2008
The academy at Withernsea starts and next year there will be a team going in to play at U9s. Then there will be The U7s who will play friendly games. And the U6s will carry on training until they can do what the U7s will do.
2008
The first team are relegated to HPL 1 for the 2008/2009 season.
For several years the first team used to play Hull City Juniors in a pre-season friendly at Withernsea. Now on a Sunday morning there is normally a game v the ex-Tigers.
