LATE BENTLEY STIRKE SENDS KINGBURN OUT
Withernsea AFC v Kingburn Athletic
Date: 01/11/2008
Venue: Hull Road Playing Fields
Comeptition: ER Senior Country Cup

Seasiders 3(Wicks P, Wilson, Bentley), Kingburn Athletic 2

Seasiders: Chris Wicks, Steve Maplebeck(Josh Webster), Dave Westoby, Tom Finn(Chris Hardcastle), John Dunn, Brad Keyworth, Phil Wicks, Mark Sutton, Gary Wilkinson, Mark Wilson, Andy Bentley.

Kingburn: Ben Hamilton, Antony Owen, Matt Lucio, Brett Cooper, Gary Shaw, Danny Shaw, Rob Chambers, Rob Jones, Lee Mason, Ricky Johnson, Dan Sherwood. Subs: Mike Whitehead, Paul Cracknell.

Withernsea continued their impressive cup form for this season winning their third first round cup tie out of three. Having progressed earlier in the season in the Yorkshire Old Boys Shield by beating Bramley Juniors 3-2. Withernsea also won at Brandesburton in the Grays Cup 5-3. Today's 3-2 victory means Withernsea have won all three first round ties although they were knocked out of the Yorkshire Old Boys Shield last week by Gildersome Spurs 4-3 after extra time. Although the league shows Withernsea are second from the foot of the table, results against the likes of todays opponents Kingburn and Brandesburton(who both lie alot higher up the HPL 1 table then the Seasiders) show that the league position should soon turn. Withernsea have only played eight games in the league though were as some teams have played eleven games.
Withernsea were without six key first team players for this game: Steve Beedham, Phil Good, Jimmy Dawson, Mark Grainger, Mark Thompson & Owen Mountain were all out for various reasons. Chris Hardcastle returned from his ban and was joined on the bench by youngster Josh Webster. Withernsea again operated in a 4-3-3 formation with Steve Maplebeck at right back, Brad Keyworth dropping in at centre back with John Dunn and Dave Westoby at left back. The midfield trio were Mark Sutton, Tom Finn and Phil Wicks whilst up front were Mark Wilson, Gary Wilkinson and Andy Bentley.
The Seasiders started brightly and took the game to Kingburn in the early stages, Gary Wilkinson, Mark Sutton, Andy Bentley and Phil Wicks got the ball on the deck and passed it around niceley. Withernsea took the lead through Phil Wicks who hit a volley from the edge of the box. Mark Wilson got the second with another fine finish from the edge of the box. Withernsea had more chances throughout the first half, Wicks hit over, Wilkinson hit over, Wilson also hit over.
The second half was a different story though, Kingburn got on top and started to create some chances. Their first goal came from a penalty and the second was a one-on-one. Chris Hardcastle came on to add some strength and legs in midfield in place of Tom Finn. Josh Webster then replaced Steve Maplebeck, Mark Wilson dropped in at right back and Webster went up front. The changes worked, it was Hardcastle's through ball that sent Bentley racing away to slot home the winner.

SEASIDERS BLOWN AWAY BY JUNIORS
Withernsea III v Hedon Rangers Juniors
Date: 01/11/2008
Venue: Hull Road Playing Fields
Referee: Dennis Drewery
Competition ER County League Division 5

Withernsea III 0, Hedon Rangers Juniors 4

Seasiders: Rob Woodruff, Mike Hunter, Paddy Mainprize, Niel Ziemski, Phil Harmon, Andy Neal, John Hussey, Stu Barker, Rob Brown, Nat Steele, Si Carter. Subs: Jezz Bateson, Jord Suddaby, Neil Akester.

The third string were heavily beaten at the hands of Hedon Rangers Juniors today. Hedon took the lead through a long range wind affected 25-yard strike early in the first half. The main turning point though was the loss of Paddy Mainprize with a head injury for the Seasiders in the first half. Andy Neal scored direct from a corner on the stroke of half time but referee Dennis Drewery dissaloud the goal, claiming it wasn't over the line. In the second half Juniors got their second through an uncleared corner that was tapped in. The third was a through ball for the striker to convert neatly and the fourth goal came straight after. Goalkeeper Robert Woodruff saved a late penalty that looked destined for the bottom corner. Overall Hedon deserved the win but the windy conditions again made it a day were no football could be played. We wish Paddy Mainprize a speedy recovery from the head injury sustained in this match.

Withernsea AFC U12s 3-5 East Riding Rangers U12s
HBSFL Plate Competition, Preliminary Round
Sunday 26th October

After a promising start the U12s came unstuck against East Riding Rangers. Taking a first minute lead through Callum Burden the home side got off to a flying start. The lead was a short lived one with the visitors levelling after ten minutes.

East Riding equalised yet again just before the half time break.
Rangers came out for the second half with all guns blazing catching Withernsea on the counter attack with two quick goals.
Billy Kynamn pulled one back for the Seasiders to set up a grandstand finish. The final goal of the game came in the way of an unstoppable volley from outside the penalty area. Hard Luck boys a good performance with some great passing, alot to be proud of and very positive about. A big thankyou to everyone for your continued support.

SEASIDERS PROGRESS IN THE CUP
Batemans U11s 6-8 Withernsea AFC
HBSFL U11 Cup Competition
Sunday 26th October
St Richards School
On a crisp autumn morning the seasiders travelled to batemans hoping to kick start there season , right from the start the boys were in there stride knocking the ball about with style making there hosts chase shadows and when the 1st opening arrived ryan made no mistake finishing with a crisp right footed shot into the bottom corner , no sooner had ryan finished his celebration than he was on the score sheet again and when liam broke through and coolly finished to make it 3-0 a rout looked on the cards but credit to batemans who scored 2 quick goals to get themselves right back in the game. The seasiders knew they were in a game now and upped there work-rate this made an opening for liam to grab his 2nd , then a batemans player handled the ball 35 yards from goal and up stepped lewis to hit a wonderful free kick in to the top corner to make a half time score of 2-5.
The 2nd half started with the seasiders missing tackles and before they knew what had hit them batemans had grabbed 2 more goals , but they settled down and played some wonderful passing football with jaidan bossing the midfield the boys played lewis in and he made no mistake , with the confidence flowing the boys started to work the batemans defence and soon lewis was celebrating his hat trick and when the hard working jaidan got his goal to make it 8-4 the boys eased up a little to allow batemans to grab a couple more goals to make the final score 6-8

Withernsea: James Mayhew, Jordan Coyle, Corey Wilcox, Jaidan Spruce, Kai Ormsby, Lee Cooper, Ryan Walker, Korben Harman, Dan McKinley, Lewis Towse, Corey Douglas, Liam Webster, Jake Sowerby

Man of the Match: Jaidan Spruce, covered every blade of grass.

Note: A massive thanks to all who travelled for some great support, To Nath McBride for reffing, But the biggest thanks to the boys for working for both halves, lets play like this in the league and results will soon come your way.

SEASIDERS STILL LOOKING HARD FOR A WIN
Withernsea AFC U10 Tigers 1-4 & 1-1 Rockford Rangers U10s
HBSFL U10 Group 3
Sunday 26th October
Withernsea Junior School

Game 1
Would the presence of midday sun warm the Tigers’ spirits, and push them towards a much needed victory? Only time would tell. The home side started positively with great defending from Oliver and Cameron turning to attack on the break with Corey, only spurned by a late tackle. The resulting free kick needed to be tipped over to thwart an early lead. Persistent pressure from Ford, joining the attacking force of Will and Corey, finally paid off with a fumbled save ending up in the goal. 1-0 to Withernsea. Concentration seemed to go astray after the goal, but Jordan and his defence remained solid as Rockford pushed forward.
The visitors came at us straight from the restart, and whilst Jordan made some great saves, the ball found its way over the line to level things up. After the goal we seemed to drop too deep, and despite some defending from midfield from Ryan, the attacks kept coming. Rockford took full advantage and rattled home 3 more goals without reply. Final score 1-4.

Game 2
A few changes made, with some fresh legs to steady things hopefully. A fairly even first half, with end to end action, but no clear cut chances to speak of. The only real penetration coming from a throw in, met by Donovan’s foot, and ending up in the back of the net. Half time 1-0.
The second half saw the visitors push forward more. Willis stood out in defence with some fantastic blocking and tackling to keep the danger at bay. The equaliser came from midfield with a sweetly struck effort which found the top corner of the goal leaving our ‘keeper with no chance. The game fizzled out as the skies darkened to leave the final score 1-1

Man of the Match: Oliver Burdett

Player of the Match Ryan Hearn

Withernsea: Jordan Barber, Jordan Wearmouth, Ford Garbutt, Oliver Burdett, Donovan Buck, William Hobson, Willis Hartland, Tom Maltby, Ryan Hearn, Corey Stork, Cameron Day.

YOUNGSTERS SUFFER DOUBLE DEFEAT
Withernsea AFC U9s 0-2 & 0-1 Barham Boys U9s
HBSFL U9 Group 1
Sunday 26th October
Withernsea Junior School

Game 1
Withernsea AFC 0 Barham Boys 2
On a windy Sunday morning Barham Boys made the trip to Withernsea. The Withernsea team soon found themselves one nil down but unlike in the previous two matches they knuckled down and played some very good football, matching the opposition in every position, so it was somewhat disappointing when they scored again to win the first game by two goals to nil.

Game 2
Withernsea AFC 0 Barham Boys 1
Undeterred after losing the first game the Withernsea Team showed great spirit by starting the second game at full throttle. Despite constantly attacking the Barham Boys goal the score remained level at half time. The second half was more even with chances for both teams but it was the away team who eventually managed to score to win the game one nil.
The Withernsea team can take pride in their performances today and on another day would have certainly won one if not both games. If they play like this next week then there is no reason why they shouldn’t get something out of the games against Willerby Wanderers. Well done to all the team.
Lastly can I just remind everyone that if they are unavailable for training or match days can they please text me as soon as possible to let me know, thank you.

Man of the Match: Max Richardson-Frankton

Withernsea: Daniel Fincham, Barnaby Teasdale, Liam Murray, Max Richardson-Frankton (Captain), Dominic Robinson, Jack Todd, Bob Eldon-Smith, Jack Bristow, Tom Richardson, Joe Reece, Ryan Faulkner, Josh Pickering.

Next week away to Willerby Wanderers meet at car park at 9.15am.

SEASIDERS BLOWN AWAY IN LEEDS
Gildersome Spurs O.B 4-3 Withernsea AFC (after extra time)
Yorkshire Old Boys Shield, Round One
Saturday 25th October
Street Lane, Gildersome
The Seasiders were knocked out of the Yorkshire Old Boys Shield today by Gildersome Spurs O.B.
Withernsea brought Chris Wicks in for the absent Phil Richardson in goal. Jimmy Dawson & Brad Keyworth came into the line-up, Owen Mountain dropped into the midfield in place of Phil Wicks and Keyworth replaced Sutton. Gary Wilkinson, Steve Maplebeck and Mark Grainger made up the strong bench.
Withernsea played against the wind in the first half and in all fairness struggled to cope with Gildersome's long ball and pace approach. It took Withernsea fifteen minutes to wake up and eventually get the ball down and try and play football. Spurs took a deserved 2-0 lead into the break. Withernsea only had two half chances in the first half when Thompson hit wide and Dawson had an effort saved from the goalkeeper from long range.
After the break we thought it'd be Withernsea's turn to pile the pressure on, how wrong we were, Withernsea came out asleep again and the hosts came out and scored. But the spirit and fight that has been seen amongst this set of players throughout this season showed again when Withernsea recovered from 3 goals down. John Dunn scored a header from a Jimmy Dawson corner. Dunn then converted a penalty. Withernsea caught Gildersome out for the equaliser when a quick Owen Mountain throw-in found Andy Bentley who crossed and after pressure from Tom Finn, Mark Thompson found himself free to slot into an empty net. Withernsea had plenty more chances though. Dunn just failed to meet another Dawson corner at the back post, Finn messed up a half chance from the edge of the area, Brad Keyworth had a great effort blocked from the edge of the box, the ball was flying into the top corner with the keeper beaten but the ball just hit the Gildersome defender on his head when he knew nothing about it. One could argue the decisive moment in the game was when Bentley was hacked by the last man when through on goal, the penalty was given but no card. If your last man it's a straight red card, he didn't even give a yellow. Withernsea went down to ten men when substitute Grainger got a head injury just minutes after coming on. Withernsea in the end though had Chris Wicks to thank for saving a late spurs penalty to his left after a hand ball was given against John Dunn.
In the first half of extra time the Seasiders fought well against the wind, but a 20yard screamer just before the interval was eventually the deciding goal. When Beedham did his hamstring Grainger came back but Withernsea still managed to get on top when they had the wind with them in the second period of extra time. Still Withernsea couldn't get anything out of the game which was definately a game of two halves, you dominate with the wind and get dominated without.
Withernsea will have to get back on track next week ahead of the visit of fellow HPL 1 side Kingburn Athletic in the E.R Senior Country Cup. The Seasiders will be without Owen Mountain, Phil Good and Steve Beedham but should be able to welcome back Mark Sutton, Phil Wicks and Mark Wilson.

Withernsea: Chris Wicks, Phil Good, Dave Westoby, John Dunn, Steve Beedham, Tom Finn, Brad Keyworth, Owen Mountain, Andy Bentley, Mark Thompson, Jimmy Dawson. Subs: Gary Wilkinson, Steve Maplebeck, Mark Grainger.

SEASIDERS TAKE RIDINGS FOR A RIDE
Withernsea AFC Reserves 2-1 F.C Ridings
ER County League Division 2
Saturday 25th October
Hull Road Playing Fields
Goals from Mark Sutton and Mark Clubley gave Jack Eggett his second win in as many weeks in County League Division 2. After waiting six games for his first win, manager Eggett didn't have to wait any longer for his next. In extremley windy conditions you could see instantly that the stiffs were up for the task. Withernsea began playing some good football against a strong head wind. The impressive Mark Sutton and Danny Fraser created plenty of chances which went unconverted. Only until Fraser played Sutton through with a defence splitting pass which the impressive Sutton slotted home to give the Seasiders the advantage. It wasn't all one way traffic though, Ridings had good possesion without really troubling James Tilley in goal. With the scoreline 1-0 to the Seasiders at half-time Withernsea were confident coming out with the wind at their backs. Unfortunately it was Ridings who started the half the better but they couldn't break down the Seasiders back line marshalled by Stephenson and Fisher. Without playing their best football Withernsea extended their lead mid-way through the second half, Mark Clubley scoring a diving header. With nothing to loose Ridings threw everything at Withernsea but the back line held firm, only until Tilley was eventually beaten by a powerful header at the back post. Although it appeared Ridings were back in the game they never really troubled Tilley again, the Stiffs held strong to give Eggett yet another 3points. A top effort from all 14 players who will go into next week's game away at Howden Amateurs Reserves full of belief.

Withernsea: James Tilley, Nathan McBride, Danny Robinson, Neil Stephenson, Paul Fisher, Danny Fraser, Mark Clubley, Josh Webster, Mark Sutton, Stew Guy, Marc Mead. Subs: Chris Playfoot, Phil Wicks, Stu Taylor.

BROWN AT THE DOUBLE AS SEASIDERS PROVE TO MUCH FOR CLIFFE
Cliffe Reserves 2-4 Withernsea AFC III
ER County League Division 5
Saturday 25th October
Oxen Lane, Cliffe
The Seasiders third string got their second win in three games today at Cliffe Reserves in County League Division 5. Youngster Rob Brown stole the show bagging a brace. Brown who is one of the half a dozen from the first bunch of youngsters to come through the ranks, along with Jezz Bateson, Tom Finn, Owen Mountain, Ben Harrison and Adam Dalli. They all came from last years U16 set-up ran by Tony Finn, the next bunch is expected to be the current U14s ran by Lee McGeachy in two years time. Brown who has impressed throughout the past few weeks capped off today's excellent display slotting two goals to help the Seasiders win 4-2 at Cliffe Reserves.
The third string had to cope with the usual couple of drop out's but suprisingly took three subs, three strong one's at that! James Tilley was called up to the Reserves in place of Chris Wicks who replaced Phil Richardson in the first team. Neil Akester was also unavailable, Robert Woodruff doned the gloves and there was no need to call anyone else up to the 14men left from the original 16.
It was the aforementioned Rob Brown who got Withernsea off the mark hitting a thirty-yard screamer leaving the Cliffe goalkeeper with no chance. Cliffe were allowed back into the game after a slight mis-judgement from goalkeeper Rob Woodruff. In terribly windy conditions a long ball managed to bounce over the head of Woodruff to let Cliffe back in the game. In the second half Brown got Withernsea's noses back infront sliding in at the backpost to slot into an empty net. Simon Carter carried on his fine run of goalscoring form by netting another to make the score 3-1. Cliffe were given a lifeline when the referee gave them a penalty. New signing Daryl Woolin secured the points coming off the bench to score the Seasiders fourth goal. It could of gone to another youngster, Jezz Bateson but he couldn't quite make enough contact on the ball with his head, luckily Woolin was there to slot home.
In all fairness it was Withernsea who could of made the scoreline a tad bigger then it was rather then Cliffe come close to reducing the scoreline. The Seasiders second win in three league games will leave them feeling confident ahead of the visit of locals Hedon Rangers Juniors this weekend.

Withernsea: Rob Woodruff, Mike Hunter, Paddy Mainprize, Phil Harmon, Nat Steele, Neil Ziemski, Andy Neal, Stu Barker, Rob Brown, John Hussey, Si Carter. Subs: Jezz Bateson, Daryl Woolin, Jord Suddaby.

WITHERNSEA SMASH DCSI FOR 4 AT THE SEASIDE
Withernsea AFC U13s 4-1 DCSI Rhinos U13s
HBSFL U13 Drypool
Sunday 19th October
Hull Road Playing Fields
Looking for there first league win of the season withernsea totally dominated the visitors with slick passing and quality finishing.
The lads started to attack from the kick off and set up camp in the dcsi penalty area. It was chance after chance but the ball would not cross the line. The keeper was outstanding for them, making some fantastic saves from Agius and Megson. Half time arrived with no goals scored even though withernsea had thrown everything at them.
The introduction of Fairweather on the left wing and Lythe on the right saw an even more attacking look to the team. On the 40th minute the deadlock was finally broken with a lovely curler just inside the box from fair-weather. 5 mins later and agius doubled the lead with another fine finish. Dcsi replied with a fortuitous goal when a cross slipped through hewitts hands into the path of the lone striker to tap in an easy goal.
The blip didn’t stop withernseas fluent football as they went on to score 2 more in the last 10 minutes from Hollingsworths well placed shot and Lythe's tap in.
This was a game withernsea never looked like losing and could easily have scored ten if it wasn’t for the outstanding dcsi goalkeeper.
Most pleasing was how the team played with confidence and real determination to win every ball for the whole 70 minutes. Every player in our 15 man team was excellent however special mention goes to Connor sims, taylor Pentecost and Daniel smith for 3 very solid performances.
Let’s hope we take this form in to next weeks tough cup game against westella and willerby A, if we do we must be confident of progressing to the quarter finals.
Well done lads.
Withernsea: Ryan Hewitt, Matthew Dean, James Sugden(Ben Ledger), Daniel Smith, Connor Sims , Zak Agius, Taylor Pentecost (James Fairweather), Cameron Hay, Ben Hollingsworth(Ross Derbyshire), Toby Megson, Toby Spalding(Elliot Lythe).

FIRST LEAGUE DEFEAT FOR SEASIDERS

HBSFL U12 Wyke
Sunday 19th October

Withernsea Under 12s lost their first league game of the season going down 6-1 to Kingsbury Park Rangers. In a game where missed chances cost the home side dearly. However full credit must go to the visitors defence for restricting Withernsea to one goal. A Billy Kynman strike just before the half time break. The Seasiders were punished several times on the counter attack.
Hard luck boys, some nice football at times a lot to be positive about. A big thank you to everyone for their support. This week at home to East Riding Rangers, meet ground at 10am.

U11 TIGERS REPORT
Hessle Rangers U11s v Withernsea AFC Tigers U11s
HBSFL U11 Myton
Sunday 19th October 2008
Penhurst School
On a crisp autumn morning the young Seasiders travelled to hessle to play a strong powerful team. Right from the first whistle the boys knew they were in for a hard time, every loose ball was ending up with a Hessle player winning possession. When the hosts raced into a three goal lead the boys could have been forgiven if they had thrown in the towel, but this group of boys are full of character. When Dan swung over a great corner Jaidan met it with a bullet header to bring the boys back into the game. Now it was a more even game but just before half time Hessle broke to make it 4-1.
The second half started at a frantic pace and within five minutes the seasiders had scored two more goals with Liam grabbing them both. Now the boys were playing the sort of football which we know they are capable of. It was the Seasiders on the front foot and when Liam broke away you thought all there effort was going to get some reward but his shot thundered back off the bar. And when Ryan broke free from his marker to be 1 on 1 with the Hessle keeper he drilled a fantastic shot which the Hessle keeper some how kept out. Almost straight after Hessle scored against the run of play but the Seasiders just would not give up and when Liam scored his 3rd it was game on. The boys were undone by a break away goal and despite dominating for the last ten minutes they just couldn't find the back of the net, final score 6-4.
Withernsea: James Mayhew, Jordan Coyle, Corey Wilcox, Jaidan Spruce, Kai Ormsby, Lee Cooper, Ryan Walker, Korben Harman, Dan McKinley, Lewis Towse, Corey Douglas, Liam Webster, Kris Larsen, Ben Garcia-Jone.
Man of the match: Dan McKinley - Excellent work-rate.
Note: A massive thanks to all who travelled to support the boys, the effort was there today we just need to do it for the full match and the results will come our way, well done boys.

BLOWN AWAY BY MORE THAN THE WIND
Withernsea AFC U10 Tigers 2-3 & 1-5 Pinefleet Wolfreton A
HBSFL U10 Group 3
Sunday 19th October
St Marys School
Game 1
A cold and blustery Autumn morning saw the Tigers travel to St. Mary’s College for a rearranged early start to accommodate support for their high flying Premiership namesakes. The game started with early pressure from Wolfreton, more than matched by our solid defensive pairing of Oliver and Cameron. The first half was a fairly evenly matched affair with few chances either way, Corey and Ford having the best of it but unfortunately not hitting the target. The passing game seemed to elude the team, but we managed to get to half-time at nil –nil.
The restart saw a now familiar switch between Oliver and Jordan B between the posts with both adapting well to the changed roles early on to soak up pressure from the home side. A lesson in passing from Pinefleet was needed to break the deadlock, which ultimately left our keeper with no chance. Going behind triggered our front line into more co-ordinated action. Ford fought for every ball and great wide play from Will forced their defender to head into his own net to level the score. The passing master class from the home team continued to frustrate our hard working Tigers, and despite dogged determination to clear the lines by Cameron, and some great saves, the goal net bulged twice more to leave us trailing 3-1. A late consolation goal slotted home by Laney made the final score-line a more respectable 3-2.
Game 2
A great start for Tigers with a fantastic solo effort from Will, starting in the middle of the park, to push it past the home ‘keeper. Ahead for the first time in this pairing. Cameron brought his solid defending into the second game, thwarting the home attacks. Better passing between the midfield of Tom and Jordan W, and some cool defending from Luke seemed to settle our nerves. Unfortunately our adversaries weren’t put off from their mission by our new found confidence, and soon turned the screw with simply excellent team play to rattle in 4 goals that we had little say in before the whistle blew for the break.
We never let our heads drop, and actually played quite well in the second half. Donovan shook off a knock to do lots of box to box work, but with no end result.
Withernsea were unlucky not to reduce the deficit here, but missed chances cost us, as Wolfreton had the final word, making our misery complete with a final goal to finish us off at 5-1.
Man of match: Corey Stork
Player of the match: Ford Garbutt
Withernsea: Jordan Barber, Jordan Wearmouth, Ford Garbutt, Oliver Burdett, Donovan Buck, William Hobson, Cameron Day, Tom Maltby, Laney Woodall, Corey Stork, Luke Thompson.

Withernsea made a positive start to the game, and within a couple of minutes Charlie scored and they were 1-0 up. Being bouyed by this early lead, Lleyton made some great passes, and had 2 shots on goal saved by the oppositions keeper. The game was end to end stuff, and when the ball went down the other end, the boys defended well, with some good passing from Hector. Their first defensive mistake led to a goal to East Riding Rangers, but the boys kept their chins up, and Joe K made some great saves in the Withernsea goal. Withernsea missed a couple of good opportunities to score, and at half time the score was 1-1.
Withernsea began again with spirit, and some good clearances from Jack Chantry kept them in it. Sam Hoff did a little Ronaldo back flick with the ball, and the boys played well together as a team. Simon made a good run with the ball, and Withernsea were unlucky not to score again. An excellent second half, and at full time the score was 1-1.
Game 2
The second game started like the first, with Ben unlucky not to have scored. Lleyton again was solid in defence, clearing well, trying to get the ball back down the other end. Unluckily for Withernsea, East Riding managed to break through and score. Jack Cross did really well putting a cross, but there was nobody there to finish it off. East Riding got a free kick, which was cleared, but the rebound went in the net. 0-2. Withernsea tried their hardest to play the ball up field, with Jack Cross again putting some good passes, but East Riding again scored at the other end, leaving us 3 down at half time.
The last half saw Withernsea try their hardest to get the ball and score. Ben played well, working with Charlie, and between them Withernsea scored. Simon had a shot on goal, but it just went wide. It was end to end stuff, and the boys defended brilliantly, and also had some good shots on goal, but the ball just wouldn't go in. The final score was Withernsea 1 East Riding Rangers 3

SUTTON AT THE DOUBLE AS SEASIDERS PROGRESS IN GRAYS
Brandesburton 3-5 Withernsea AFC
Grays Cup
Saturday 18th October
Catwick Lane
Two goals from Mark Sutton, a Mark Thompson lob, an Andy Bentley half volley and a close range strike from Tom Finn helped Withernsea see off Brandesburton in todays Grays Cup first round tie. Withernsea were missing several key players including Jimmy Dawson, Mark Wilson, Mark Grainger, Gary Wilkinson and Brad Keyworth. Keyworth had a run for the Reserves after recently suffering with trouble on his knee.
The game started off very open with both sides getting forward and getting chances in. Brandesburton took the lead with a headed goal from a corner. Withernsea drew level with a great finish from Mark Sutton after good work involving Phil Wicks and Andy Bentley. The Seasiders then started to get on top, Andy Bentley headed over. Withernsea then took the lead, this time Owen Mountain headed a shot on to Sutton who headed in his second goal of the game. Brandesburton drew level in the same way as the first, another header from a corner at the back post. Straight after the restart Brandesburton took the lead when the left winger beat several min and whipped a dangerous ball in that was eventually scrambled home. Withernsea equalised shortly after when Phil Goods long ball found Mark Thompson who found himself through on goal, he lobbed the keeper to square things up. The Seasiders got their noses infront when Andy Bentley hit a sweet half volley on the turn from ten yards out into the bottom corner. Tom Finn sealed the game when Mark Thompson's effort was saved after good work from Owen Mountain, Finn slotted the rebound from close range. Mark Sutton was unlucky not to score a hat-trick in his man of the match display from midfield. He had a goal disaloud for a supposing offside. Late sub Andy Beedham fired a volley wide from close range. Withernsea can welcome back several players for next weeks trip to leeds based outfit Gildersome Spurs O.B in the Yorkshire Old Boys Shield.

Withernsea: Pete Sugden, Phil Good(Steve Maplebeck,67), Dave Westoby, Tom Finn, John Dunn, Steve Beedham, Mark Sutton, Phil Wicks, Mark Thompson(Andy Beedham,81), Owen Mountain, Andy Bentley.

SECOND HALF SHOW COMES TO LATE FOR THIRDS
Market Weighton Reserves 7-3 Withernsea III
ER County League Division 5
Saturday 18th October
Goodmanham Road, Market Weighton
After going 6-0 down after just 35minutes the third team made somewhat of a fight out of this match. In the early stages the midfield were over run in midfield. It looked as though it could be worse and after 35minutes as though it would be going into at least double figures. But in the second half some tactical changes got Withernsea back in the game. Goals came from Simon Carter, Tom Ward and Rob Woodruff. It was left a bit to late though, It could of been different if Carters Free-Kick wasn't disallowed. Carter scored from in virtually a corner position and the ball went straight in without touching anybody, the referee deemed it offside when it was virtually impossible to be. After such a sloppy start it was never going to turn around but Frank Windas will be pleased with his sides never say die attitude.

Withernsea: James Tilley, Jezz Bateson, John Hussey, Mike Hunter, Niel Ziemski, Stu Barker, Rob Woodruff, Simon Carter, Nat Steele, Neal Akester, Rob Brown. Subs: Jord Suddaby, Tom Ward.

Sunday 12th October
Cottingham High School
On a warm sunny afternoon, the Under 12's made the trip to Cottingham Rangers and claimed their first win of the season.
Withernsea settled into the game taking early possesion of the ball, creating the first chance of the game with Billy Kynman shooting just wide. The home side took the lead midway through the half with a counter attack after a Withernsea corner.
The Seasiders came storming back with further chances before the break but where unable to level the score. Shortly after the restart Billy Kynman equalised for the boys with a 30yard lob. Jordan Medcalf nearly gave Withernsea the lead heding just wide from a corner. Ricky Walker did give the Seasiders the lead firing home after another corner for the boys. Man of the match Billy Kynman scored the final goal of the game to round of a fine team performance. Well done boys a solid team display much to be proud of. QUALITY FIRST HALF, POOR SECOND SHOWS FOOTBALL IS A GAME OF TWO HALFS
Withernsea AFC U11 Tigers 5-9 St Andrews U11s
HBSFL U11 Myton League
Sunday 12th October
Hull Road Playing Fields
On a warm sunday morning the young seasiders entertained st andrews, and right from the 1st whistle both teams settled into there game with the seasiders playing there passing game and st andrews playing a more direct style of football. The boys were showing some neat touches and more desire than has been present in there last few matches and when st andrews keeper took a goal kick corey d controlled the ball 1st time and unleashed a thunderous right footed shot in to the top corner, but instead of settling the boys it just made st andrews push on and there 1st goal arrived soon after. Now the boys realised they were in a game and started to play some great football and when lewis picked the ball up on the right side of the area he beat the st andrews keeper at his near post and then corey d scored his 2nd beating the offside trap before coolly finishing in the bottom corner, you thought the boys would push on and take control but this never happened as st andrews broke away to score there 2nd.The seasiders next attack won them a corner and lewis swung over a great cross which jaidan met at the far post to get the seasiders 4th and when lewis scored a screamer from the edge of the area the boys were cruising at 5-2 up but the seasiders defence went to sleep and st andrews broke away twice in a minute to make the half time score 5-4
The 2nd half started with the boys almost unrecognisable from the side that had played so well in the 1st half, all the challenges were half hearted the passes were missing there team mates and st andrews just seemed to grow in confidence going on to score 5 unanswered goals final score 5-9

YOUNG SEASIDERS SUFFER HEAVY DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF HORNSEA
Hornsea Sporting U11s 9-0 Withernsea AFC U11s
HBSFL U11 Kingston League
Sunday 12th October
Albrough Playing Fields
Chris Hardcastle's U11s took a nasty hammering today against locals Hornsea Sporting. In all fairness league leaders Hornsea are a tad above the Kingston League standard. This showed and they taught the young Seasiders a lesson. Although It wouldn't of been as easy if the Withernsea outfit didn't just lay down and let themselves get hammered. Chris Hardcastle will get the boys back on the training ground to get the confidence back up. There was no effort from the first minute from twelve of the fourteen in the squad. Oliver Drew just kept the game in single figures with some good saves, but a big mention must go to the rock at the back Spencer Kelly who was outstanding in everything he did. Withernsea only had one half chance, this was when Luke Rylott saw an attempt blocked then hit he hit the rebound wide.

ONE OUT OF POSSIBLE SIX FOR YOUNG SEASIDERS
Withernsea AFC Tigers 2-2 & 2-4 East Riding Rangers B
HBSFL U10 Group 3
Sunday 10th October
Withernsea Junior School
Match 1
Early pressure from the opposition needed fine saves from Jordan B and strong defending by Oliver and Luke. Steady passing in midfield between Ford and Connor settled the game into a much more even contest, until Donovan, in an early example of his high standard of play throughout the whole match, sailed past Rangers defenders before hitting the back of the net, nutmegging the keeper on the way. The lead didn’t last long, as without pressure, a defensive mix up saw an own goal. I’m not sure what Donovan had for his breakfast, but he was unstoppable, and immediately restored the lead with a fantastic solo effort. Half time produced an attacking substitution, with Jordan W taking a breather to let Corey on. The second half was a carbon copy of the first with early pressure from the visitors, again with the defence holding strong. When we started to push forward a great counter strike levelled the score at 2 each. Concentration seemed to disappear at this point and a 3rd away goal soon came, closely followed by a goalkeeping substitution (William). Will was alert in between the sticks, making some fine saves. This, alongside the persistent good work of the defence helped keep the threat down. Time was ticking away, and Donovan was hungry for his hat-trick, which he deservedly claimed with an almost identical piece of solo determination deep into the second half. Morale boosted, several chances followed, but came to nothing. Final score 3-3
Match 2
A mass change of personnel was employed, with Oliver (goal) and Jordan B (midfield) the only survivors from the first match. Hopefully 5 pairs of fresh legs would pay off. A much more even start to the game this time, with some great work on the right wing by Laney. The first real pressure came in the form of some away corners, which were defended shakily, but the goal wasn’t breached. A much needed confidence boost for JJ came with a lovely short range lob of the keeper to give the Tigers a well deserved lead. Against the run of play, the rangers striker found himself one on one with only our keeper to beat. 1-1. Tigers weren’t about to lie down, and some fine work from Will laying the ball across the box for Laney to slot home put us back on top. Some late first half pressure from the visitors required some alert defending from Ryan and Tom, and a great reflex save from Oliver. Half time saw Oliver retire to the bench to be replaced by Will in goal and the 2 Jordans switch places. Corey came back on to provide some firepower up front, which nearly resulted in an early goal which surely would have finished the game off. At the other end, Ryan and Willis were holding a strong defensive line, until a mix up from a Rangers throw –in saw Will bundle into his own net to level it at 2-2. There was no going back now, as Tigers heads started to dip. An excellent rocket of a shot from outside the box put the visitors in the lead, followed by a late goal to guarantee an away win for East Riding Rangers.
This match could have gone either way, and on another day the result could have been different . Final score 2-4.

SEASIDERS YET TO GET GOING THIS SEASON
Withernsea AFC U9s 0-3 & 2-4 Westella & Willerby U9s
HBSFL U9 Group 1
Sunday 12th October 2008
Withernsea Junior School
Game 1
Withernsea AFC 0 Westella & Willerby 3
Withernsea hosted Westella & Willerby in their first home game of the season on a lovely sunny Sunday morning. Withernsea started brightly enough but it was Westella & Willerby who opened the scoring to lead by the single goal at half time. Withernsea struggled in the second half and it was their opponents who went on to win the game by three goals to nil.
Game 2
Withernsea AFC 2 Westella & Willerby 4
Westella and Willerby continued to dominate the game despite the Withernsea team putting in plenty of effort and it was no surprise when they won the second game by four goals to two. Our goals scorers being Jack Todd (a fine run from the half way line before slotting it past the keeper) and Joe Reece (a calm finish past the keeper). The scores could have been worse but for some good keeping from all the goal keepers (Daniel Fincham, Barnaby Teasdale, and Liam Murray) and some last ditch tackles from Max Richardson-Frankton.
Withernsea don’t seem to have got going yet this season. They would have won their opponents on last season’s form, but the team aren’t passing and working as hard as they have done in the past and playing like we know they can play. Lots of work needs to be done at training to get their confidence up and get them playing to their full potential.

Withernsea: Daniel Fincham, Barnaby Teasdale, Liam Murray, Max Richardson-Frankton (Captain), Dominic Robinson, Jack Todd, Bob Eldon-Smith, Jack Bristow, Tom Richardson, Joe Reece, Ryan Faulkner, Josh Pickering.

Man of the Match: Barnaby Teasdale

U8S GO DOWN AND DRAW
Hessle Sporting Spitfires 2-5 & 4-4 Withernsea AFC U8 Tigers
HBSFL U8 Group 2
Sunday 14th October 2008
King George V Playing Fields
Match 1
Withernsea started the match with energy, but had to defend straight away. Hessle seemed to be attacking all of the time, and Withernsea found it difficult to get the ball past the half way line. Sam Feeney was strong in defence, along with Alex Fincham, who made some good clearances. When Withernsea did get the ball up front, they couldn't convert the crosses. Hessle had a free kick, which Withernsea couldn't clear, and it went in the back of the net. Some good play and passes from Withernsea weren't enough to stop them going 2-0 down at half time. In the second half, Withernsea again were defending most of the time, and Sam Hoff tried his hardest to clear the ball, but Hessle went 3-0 up. Withernsea managed to get the ball up the other end, and Charlie Eldon lobbed the keeper to make the score 3-1. Joe Clark made a fantastic block with his head! More defending from the boys , and Ben Billany managed to score making it 3-2. Withernsea tried their hardest to equalise, but another 2 from Hessle made the final score 5-2.
Match 2
The second match saw a determined Withernsea come out with a renewed energy, with the boys pushing Hessle to defend, and seeing Charlie Eldon score. Hessle attacked and just missed the goal. Withernsea defended fantastically well with Hector Teasdale making some fantastic saves in the goal. Hessle attacked again, and a lot of scrambling on the line saw the ball just go over the line. Another attack from Withernsea, and 2 fantastic goals from Charlie gave the boys more energy, and we found ourselves 3-1 up. Hessle scored again, but at half time we were 2-3 up. The second half carried on where it had left, and more attacking and defending gave us a really fast paced game. Alex scored for us and the crowd went wild. More good defending from Sam, and fearless keeping from Hector, gave the boys a lift. Hessle managed to score twice more, but the Withernsea boys were beginning to tire. At full time the score was 4-4.
Withernsea are beginning to gel as a team, and some good games and results like these will spur the boys on to be more confident players.
Man of the Match: Alex Fincham
Most Improved Player: Sam Feeney
Withernsea: Alex Fincham, Sam Feeney, Ben Billany, Hector Teasdale, Aiden Evison, Simon Longstaff, Charlie Eldon, Sam Hoff, Lleyton Ziemski, Jack Cross, Joe Kemp, Joe Clark.

SHAKY SEASIDERS BEATEN BY YOUNG HESSLE OUTFIT
Withernsea AFC 0-2 Hessle Sporting
Humber Premier League Division One
Saturday 11th October
Hull Road Playing Fields
The Seasiders were beaten 2-0 by Hessle Sporting today, Hessle knew that a victory and a draw or defeat for Kinnersley could send them top. They beat leaders Kinnersley 6-4 last weekend and instantly you could tell they'd be a deent team, they played some good football at times. They are a very young team that will run all day, a very organised outfit that had named five subs but had about eight warming up whilst the game was going on.
The day started on a bright note when referee Alan Slater took his pre-match speach, consisting of several foul and abusive words to describe what his name is NOT.
Withernsea welcomed back Jimmy Dawson to the line-up and Mark Wilson to the bench. The influential Brad Keyworth missed out with a knee ligament injury, he will miss next week's Grays Cup tie but should be back in time for the trip to Gilbersome O.B in the Yorkshire O.B Shield. Mark Sutton took Keyworth's place in the starting eleven. Wilson was joined on the bench by Gary Wilkinson and Mark Thompson.
Thompson didn't stay on the bench for long though he replaced Mark Grainger after twenty minutes when a groin injury forced him out of the action. Withernsea started the better of the two sides taking the game to Hessle from the start, chances came the way of Mark Sutton who saw a header saved, Andy Bentley fired wide of the mark, Jimmy Dawson fired wide from distance. Hessle then forced their way into the game, using their pace to their advantage. Pete Sugden was called upon once or twice to make the occasional save, John Dunn did two last ditch challenges to prevent the visitors taking the lead.
In the second half Withernsea again saw chances go begging, Bentley fired wide again, Dawson hit the side netting from close range, Thompson missed a one-on-one, Wicks fired wide and Dunn had a free-kick, the same as last week saved by goalkeeper Luke Picken. Hessle scored with 15minutes left on the clock, a ball came over the top that Beedham misjudged the Hessle striker ran through and finished nicely. Two minutes after this substitute Gary Wilkinson blazed a well worked team effort over from just three yards out!! Wilson, Dawson and Thompson combined to find Wilkinson at the back post who's sliding attempt flew straight over the crossbar from just about the closest place possible. The second came only three minutes later for Hessle when Phil Good was beaten down the right, the ball was crossed in and the striker scrambled it home.
A bad day at the office on the Seasiders behalf, a bit light in midfield and lacking the crucial finish that is the key to football. There is signs that it was there though and it has been seen in previous weeks so it's time to put it right next week away against Brandesburton in Round One of the Grays League Cup.

Withernsea: Pete Sugden, Phil Good, Dave Westoby, John Dunn, Steve Beedham, Tom Finn, Phil Wicks, Mark Sutton(Mark Wilson) Andy Bentley(Gary Wilkinson), Mark Grainger(Mark Thompson), Jimmy Dawson.

EGGETT SO CLOSE TO FIRST WIN BUT SEARCH GOES ON
West Hull 3-2 Withernsea AFC Reserves
E.R County League Division 2
Saturday 11th October
Wyke College Sports Centre
Goals from new signing Daryl Woolin & Owen Mountain pushed West Hull all the way before going down by the odd goal from five. Jack Eggett is still in search of his first victory as a manager, but he has know fears saying "I know it will come sooner rather then later". The Reserves have been the better side in recent matches and losing, today's occasion was no different.
The first half started off in a similar fashion as the previous week, with the Seasiders playing good football. They started off on top creating plenty of chances with Mountain, Guy & Jones creating and having a lot of chances. Unfortunately though it was West Hull who took the lead with a neat finish from their lively striker. Withernsea struck back almost immediatly though through Daryl Woolin, a reward for his efforts on his debut. The second half was a more even affair with West Hull creatin chances on several occasions, they regained the lead half way through the first half. Withernsea were not finished and pushed forward looking to turn their efforts in to goals but as with the previous week they were court on the counter. The unfortunate Danny Robinson turned a cross into his own net to make it 3-1. With nothing to lose Eggett sent Clubley up top and this brought some reward when Mountain pulled one back as the Seasiders dominated the last ten minutes. For the second week running the Stiffs came away from a game with no reward for their effort. Again Eggett was pleased with his team performance but disappointed with the result.

The Seasiders managed to beat Hornsea 3-1 in last weeks league match, they failed to carry on were they left off against a similar Hornsea team. The Seasiders handed first appearances to Phil Harman and youngster Jezz Bateson. Rob Brown put in another strong performance for the Yellow & Greens but it just wasn't to be today.

KEYWORTH OUT
After leaving it as late as possible to find out on his availability it appears Brad Keyworth will not be fit enough for tomorrow's crucial home game v Hessle Sporting. Keyworth has damaged his knee, he went for a run on Wednesday night and felt fine, after trying to play 5-a-side on Thursday it appears he will not be fit enough to play tomorrow's fixture. Luckily the next two week's the Seasiders are out of league action so the influential midfield machine may not miss any league games. This means Withernsea are left with the squad below minus Keyworth.

YOUNGSTER'S PROGRESS IN THE CUP
Bridlington Rangers Saxtons 3-4 Withernsea AFC(after extra time)
Sunday 5th October
HBSFL U13 Cup Competiton
Round 1 of the knock out cup saw the seasiders travel up the coast to Wwyke team Bridlington. Another high scoring game this week saw the boys finally finish off the opposition, something they have been incapable of in the last few weeks.

It was a fast start for Brid, scoring after 5 minutes. This prompted Withernsea to wake up with a quick response from Toby Megson to strike on the turn from the edge of the box.
The narrow pitch didn’t favour Withernseas style of play, forcing them inside and at times resorting to the long ball game. Zak Agius came off the bench to set up Toby Spalding to poke home after a goalmouth scramble.

The referees ‘linesman’ (part of the Brid set-up!) would do well working on an airport runway the amount of times his arm raised up and down! The over active liner flagged for off side almost every Withernsea attack. Megson managed to stay on side (20 yards on was borderline off side with flag man) to fire home 3-1 with 20 mins to go Brid threw all they had at us and managed 2 goals for there efforts. Flag happy later deemed 2 Withernsea goals to be off side to force the game into extra time.

Throughout the game James fair-weather caused trouble for their defence and Ross Derbyshire grow stronger to shut out any danger. Neither team would give in but it was Withernsea who came out on tops with 5 mins to go when an Agius strike deflected past the outstretched ‘keeper.

Withernsea progressed to the next round of the cup, to be played October 26th. The fantastic supporters enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with fish and chips and flag man made his way back to the runway.

Withernsea: Ryan Hewitt, Cameron Hay, Matthew Dean(Ben Holligsworth), James Sugden(Taylor Pentecost), Daniel Smith, Ben Ledger(Connor Simms), Elliot Lythe(Zak Agius),Ross Derbyshire, Toby Megson, Toby Spalding, James Fairweather.

SEASIDERS YOUNGSTERS BACK ON TRACK WITH CUP SUCCESS
Hessle Rangers Juniors 1-2 Withernsea AFC Tigers U11s
Sunday 5th October
HBSFL U11 Cup Round 1
Hessle High Lower School
On a bright but chilly sunday morning the seasiders travelled to play hessle, straight from the kick off you could see it was going to be an end to end encounter and after the teams settled down it was the seasiders who started to dominate the match having the majority of possesion but just not really creating any openings for there forwards, but just when you thought half time would arrive without a breakthrough withernsea midfield worked an opening and liam coolly lobbed the ball over the advancing hessle keeper to make the half time team talk a lot easier.
The second half started with the seasiders being pegged back in there own half, but they soon started to win some good loose ball and they started to string some passes together, but the longer the half went on and the more chances went begging you could see hessle growing in confidence and when there striker out muscled kai he made no mistake from the edge of the area. Now the boys realised that hessle were not there just to make up the numbers and that they wanted to progress in the cup just as much as the seasiders,it was end to end stuff with both keepers pulling off some fantastic saves, but when everyone thought extra time would be needed up popped jaidan who smashed a fierce right foot shot into the bottom corner to give the seasiders a well deserved victory final score 1-2

Withernsea travelled to Hessle to play our close rivals in the season opener. Hessle started well, but it was Withernsea who came closest, after some nice football, Bob Eldon-Smith shot wide. Hessle then went immediately to the other end and scored. The second half was a closely fought contest but, again, it was Hessle who managed to find the back of the net and win the first game by 2 goals to nil.
Game 2
Hessle Sporting Sharks 4 Withernsea AFC 1
Withernsea started the second game very slowly and after some sloppy play found themselves two goals down in a matter of minutes. But, to their credit, they knuckled down and Liam Murray scored after some good passing between the forwards. Hessle then showed their superior quality and scored twice more during the second half. It could have been more but for some fine keeping from Barnaby Teasdale, who was one of four new players making their debuts for the team.
The team need to pick themselves up for next week when they face Westella & Willerby in our first home game.
Man of the Match: Joe Reece

Match 1
Withernsea 's first home game started fast and furious, with W/sea having to defend from the start. NC had a shot but it hit the post. Jack Cross defended well, and W/sea passed the ball well also.   Hector made a good save, and W/sea found it hard to get the ball past the half way line. NC had a corner which W/sea defended with attack, Jack Chantry clearing, but NC were unlucky not to score. Hector made some good saves in the W/sea goal.   W/sea continued to defend, but NC managed to get the ball in the back of the net. 0 -1 to NC. W/sea kept their chins up, and put on a good defensive show but finished the half 0 -1 down.   The second half started in the same way, with a lot of defending having to be done. W/sea continued to chase the ball, but their chances came to nothing. A defensive mistake led to NC's second goal. 0 - 2 to NC. W /sea had a good period after the second goal, with some good passing shots. Charlie and Alex passed well but again they just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. Alex Fincham managed to have a shot on goal, which just missed. Final Score 0 - 2 to NC.
Match 2
W/sea began the second game with fire and determination, and Joe Kemp made a fantastic save. Some more good defending from Ben and Jack C. Joe K made another fab save, and kicked the ball far up the pitch. Ben took it up, and was unlucky not to score. More good passing and strong defending from the boys, Lleyton showing strength in trying to get the ball down the wing and into a scoring position. NC free kick, which again had a good save from Joe K. Another shot from Ben was saved by the NC keeper. Half Time 0 - 0.   W/sea seemed more determined this half, and NC were beginning to get tired.
