Withernsea AFC
Here you will find everything you need to know about the youth system at Withernsea AFC. (When Formed, Players that made the first team, Honours and more)
Background
It's only recently, over the last three years that the youth academy at Withernsea AFC has become such an outstanding prospect. As of the 2008/09 season we will have teams competing in the HBSFL leagues from U9s - U14s. Every year young boys and girls will join the club from 5 and train until they are old enough to go into the U9s. Although now when players are 7 they will be able too play matches arranged by the County F.A. These will be friendlys, no leagues involved and the score-line having no relevance. They wont be every week but as often as possible. The U16's were the first side too join when they joined 4 years ago at U12s and were the runners up and promoted in the Drypool League. They since kept Myton League Status all the way through and just recently in their last game won the U16 Plate 1-0 v Northern Tigers at Dene Park. Most of these will progress into the senior side's next year. Their will always be other Holderness sides looking at taking these players away due too not being able too develop them thereselves. In two years time we will be looking at having teams right from U9s - U16s and having the young academy(5-7s) going waiting too progress them into the U9s. Withernsea AFC also have an Annual Tournament every year now which we've had for 2 years now. Over 100 teams come down for a weekend of fun and football. The winners of each age group each recieve a Trophy and an individual trophy. The runners-up of each age group gets an individual trophy. Other fun days are held throughout the season for the juniors such as dads v lads, penalty shoot-outs and many more. Each year apart from the Tournament which is known too bring in an income of £5,000+ we hold another fund-raising event and split the money in half between the football club and a charity of our choice. This is what makes Withernsea a very popular set-up with local charities, local people and best of all the local boys that we love to see a smile on their face playing football on a Sunday morning. It is not only known as one of the most succesfull and best in Holderness & the East Riding but the whole of Hull.
Players Progression
Our main aim at our football club is too bring in players from each team too play in our senior squads. We have only had one team so far too make the U16s and finish and come too bring some of the squad too senior Football. We hope the U14s of next year will be the next and it will continue every year. That is what makes the Academy the main part of the club. From our recent U16s three players have played in the first team and this is a fantastic Achievment. Goalkeeper Pete Healing filled in three times and impressed. Recently attracted some interest from local rivals Easington Utd but Healing insists he will be staying at the club. Owen Mountain made himself a regular at the end of last term in the Humber Premier league and impressed in every game. Tom Finn made three sub appearances and will look too build on that over this season. As well as these three most of the team will be signing and we hope that over the years we will have some real talents and an excellent first team. Long may it continue...
Recruitment
We are always looking to bring players into the club and would be very keen too sign players on. There will be training held in the week or on a Saturday morning and we play in the Hull Boys Sunday league on a Sunday morning. All training is fun as well as having a meaning that is too improve the players game. All ages are welcome and if anybody would like too join please get in touch with us by contacting Tony or Debbie Finn on 01964 614770.
